Yoga and mirapoix
Dec. 6th, 2009 11:26 pmEarlier this week, I snagged a business card for a yoga studio at the security desk up here at Nationwide. He had a special running for the first month; $24 for unlimited visits. Since I'm only up here for another 30 days or so, why not? My first visit was on Thursday and I've been back Saturday and again today, so I can say the guy's good. My age is showing though (or is that my complete lack of exercise and just flying a desk?), but I'm working my way through it and feeling pretty damn good. I plan to go as many times as possible (I checked, he's cool with it), so I can get a good routine going and when I get back home (and fully employed) I can keep doing it.
And I've been playing this game on Facebook that Barb showed me (insisted I play) called "Cafe World" and I've been getting hungry just watching the descriptions of the chef making dishes. So today I made a beef stew with mirapoix, using 2 parts onion to 1 part each celery and carrots. While I was reducing it down (just the veggies and olive oil), I cut up some potatoes and browned 1.5 lbs of stew beef in an electric skillet. Added a tablespoon of minced garlic into the mirapoix, mixed it up, then threw everything into a crockpot with two bay leaves, a sprig of fresh rosemary, three tablespoons of salt (measured in the palm of my hand, like the way my grandma taught me), some pepper, oregano, and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce and let the thing cook while I went to yoga.
Hoo boy, let me tell you there is *nothing* like coming back to the smell of beef stew with mirapoix in it. And this is damn near a perfect stew too. Had a big bowl for dinner and packed up 4 more for lunch this week. Yummeh.

I'd like to get my order in for next year ahead of the Christmas rush, so here is what I want. After the first few, it's in no particular order.
1. Full time job. Preferably with EMC, an EMC Partner, or storage related. Barb and I understand that travel will most likely be involved, but at the least I would be able to come home for the weekends.
2. Come home.
3. Spend time with Barbara and Elliott. 1 & 2 have to happen first.
4. See my family and friends. Right now, my soul is hurting because I can't be with my family or my friends.
And in no particular order:
Be creative and do some shooting. I've been watching Flickr and other sites, so I can see what everybody else is doing. I want to go to Dr Sketchy's one evening, go on an UrbanEx, go to a Con where I don't have a schedule to adhere to and set up my backdrop to take pictures.
Work in my yard.
Organize my crap.
Do "stuff".
Simply be *me* again.

Aug. 2nd, 2009 08:07 pmJob! So why am I not thrilled?
Jul. 29th, 2009 01:00 pmGot the contract in Kentucky for 2 months, so I'll be staying at the in-law aunt & uncles place in Floyds Knobs, IN.
So why am I not happy? This is vastly different from being in NJ as I will be around friends (looking at YOU A&A) and family, Barbara is already planning on driving up at some point with Elliott to visit, and I'm doing specifically what I am trained and experienced in. I am relieved, but I am still not happy.

Jun. 20th, 2009 10:14 pmJust to let everyone know, I am home and exceedingly happy to be here. The E-Man was very, very happy to see his daddy, but the initial welcome was very subdued. He had just woke up from his nap and just looked up at me then held his arms out. I picked him up and we just held each other for about 10 minutes before we packed everything up and went to the Decatur Beach Party. That was a BLAST! He and I sat in the pile of sand where I would fill a bucket then turn it over so it made a sand tower. He would say something about it, pointing while he did and then poke it until it fell over. Repeat.
And just to let everyone know, that "getting home" schedule was blown to Hell by 4pm on Thursday. Got a call from Delta while I was waiting on the shuttlebus saying that my flight had been delayed until 7:55. We actually took off at 9. I had forgotten what a crap shoot Newark Liberty was with weather delays.

Jun. 14th, 2009 10:52 amThis fellow,
petrosphotos is becoming one of my favorite photographers to look at. These are all contemporary images taken in (for lack of a better term) in and around Russia. They have that "I'm not sure exactly where that is," look to them until you spot an old Soviet statue, piece of propaganda art, or something that just screams that it's Russian.
I have no idea where they are exactly as it's all in (you guessed it) Russian. They are beautiful, sometimes sexy, sometimes very disturbing, and sometimes sad, but they are all real.
